At 1.00pm on Saturday 2nd November Cor Cochion (The Red Choir) will be singing outside the Westgate Hotel in Newport to raise money for the New People’s Mural as a replacement for the Mosaic Mural which was destroyed by Newport City Council on 3rd October.
The event will be hosted by the People’s Assembly Newport.
Pippa Bartolotti said, “Many in Newport see the wilful destruction of the Kenneth Budd mosaic as a symbol of all that is wrong in Newport, and people are pressing – not just for their own mural – but to take their city back from the years of mismanagement by party political councillors who are more interested in working against each other than working for the good of our city.”
This is the first fundraising event to be held, and the proceeds will be split between the Chartist Mural fund and the burgeoning People’s Assembly Newport, who are also hosting the Chartists Survival evening on December 7th at Le Pub where locals can share the open mic sessions and have their say.
Pippa Bartolotti added, “The Chartist mural may have gone, but the Chartist spirit lives
The Green Party fully supports the People’s Assembly and all efforts to raise funds for the People’s Mural, which, it is hoped, will incorporated the saved fragments from the original.
